How Transaction Import Works

There are two ways to add transactions in Pixel Budget:
    Adding transactions manuallySee:  Adding Transactions
Importing transactions from your bank statementThis allows you to import multiple transactions from a specific time period at once.

Supported File Formats

Pixel Budget currently supports the following formats:
  • OFX
  • QFX
  • CSV
When exporting transactions from your online banking service, make sure you choose one of these formats.
If multiple formats are available, choose OFX or QFX instead of CSV. These formats are standardized and easier to work with.

How Often Should You Import?

If you choose to import transactions instead of adding them manually, it is recommended to import them regularly — at least once per week.
The longer the time between imports, the more difficult it becomes to review transactions and manage your budget accurately.
Although Pixel Budget detects and skips duplicate transactions, always make sure you select the correct date range when exporting your bank statement.

Steps to Import an OFX, QFX, or CSV File

In the left vertical menu, select Tools → Import.
  • If the menu is not visible, click the menu icon in the top-left corner.
  • Note: The Import function is available only in the web app. It is not supported in the mobile app.
On the Import page, select the account you want to import transactions into.
Click Import file (OFX, QFX, CSV).
In the file selection dialog, choose the file you exported from your bank.
    Click Open.
What happens next depends on the file type.

If You Open an OFX or QFX File

The import process starts immediately. Wait until it finishes.
After the import:
  • The transactions appear on the Import page.
  • They are not yet added to your Transactions page.
You must review and approve the imported transactions before they are permanently added.
To learn more about reviewing and approving imported transactions, see:  Reviewing and Approving Imported Transactions .

If You Open a CSV File

Unlike OFX and QFX, the CSV format does not have a standardized structure.
This means Pixel Budget must first understand which columns contain:
  • The transaction date
  • The transaction amount
  • The vendor name
When importing a CSV file for the first time from a specific bank, the CSV Configuration Wizard will start.
In the wizard, you must:
  • Select the correct columns
  • Set the date format
  • Set the currency format
This configuration is required only once per bank file format. The next time you import a CSV file from the same bank, Pixel Budget will remember the settings.
After configuration:
  • The transactions appear on the Import page.
  • They are not yet added to your Transactions page.
You must review and approve them before they become regular transactions.
